Edward M. Mendoza, M.D., M.B.A., C.P.E., FAAN, FACPE
Dr. Edward M. Mendoza is an independent contractor and senior Physician Consultant of the Mendoza group. He has more than 29 years of experience in health care as a physician and consultant. He also has a Neurology private practice. Dr. Mendoza’s consulting services include physician training, coder and case manager education, physician liaison training, clinical documentation quality reviews, clinical pathway development, and clinical cost management. Other present consulting experience is as a part time Vice President of Medical Affairs (Medical Director) at a tertiary care facility. He also assists with DRG and CPT proper coding projects and educational programs for HIM, UM, and QA personnel.
Dr Mendoza is board certified in Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Medical Management. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives and the American Academy of Neurology. He is a Certified Physician Executive. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science, received his Doctor of Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and his Masters of Business Administration from the Executive Program of Georgia State University in Atlanta.
Dr. Mendoza is widely published in the medical literature including several books: International Healthcare, A Framework for Comparing National Health Care Systems, 3rd edition and Mastering the Reimbursement Process, 2nd Edition. He has been recognized in Modern Healthcare for his international expertise. He has spoken at numerous seminars, both nationally and internationally on clinical, international health care, and managed care topics. He has prepared and taught “Financing International Health Care Systems, Comparative International Health Care Systems, and Managed Care for Public Health” for the school of Public Health, Morehouse School of Medicine.
William O. Tatum IV, M.D.,
Dr. William O. Tatum IV is a professor in the Department of Neurology in the Mayo College of Medicine. He is the director of the epilepsy monitoring unit at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. He completed his medical training at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa and a post graduate neurology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He then completed a two-year epilepsy fellowship at the Graduate Hospital Comprehensive Epilepsy Center in Philadelphia, affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. After his training, he relocated to Tampa, Florida and in conjunction with Tampa General Hospital, pioneered the Tampa General Hospital-University of South Florida Comprehensive Epilepsy Center before joining the Mayo Clinic in 2009.
He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), the ABPN with added qualifications in neurophysiology, and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology. He is currently a fellow in the American Academy of Neurology and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He has served on the board of directors for the American Board of Registration of EEG Technologists and Evoked Potentials. He is president-elect of the board of the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and a council member of the board for the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He actively lectures in the field of epilepsy, and has authored or co-authored multiple abstracts, peer-reviewed editorials and journal articles, book chapters and has edited/co-edited several books in the field of clinical epilepsy and neurophysiology. His research interests include seizure semiology, drug-resistant epilepsy, and EEG/clinical neurophysiology.

| Program Purpose / Objectives |
Following attendance at this educational activity,
participants should be able to:
- Following the presentation on epilepsy the participant will be able to recognize common forms of seizures and make treatment recommendations.
- After the lecture attendees will be able to appreciate the prevalence and features of psychogenic non-epileptic seizures commonly seen in clinical practice.
- Upon completion of the presentation the participant will be able to understand the intricacy of the neurological examination and the rationale for its use.
- The lecture on movement disorders will allow the participant to identify common movements and be able to discuss common syndromes for the purposes of initiating treatment.
- Neuroimages will allow attendees the opportunity to interact with the faculty during analysis of visually-based images and discuss treatment and prognosis based upon the findings.
- After the lecture on Alzheimer’s disease the attendee will be able to appreciate the recent developments in the field of diagnosis and their ramifications on treatment.
- Following the lecture on peripheral neuropathy the attendee will be able to understand the pathophysiology and diversity of neuropathies and develop an approach to treatment.
