Faculty

Martin H. Poleski, M.D.,CM, FACP, AGAF, Professor of Medicine, Duke University; Director of Endoscopy and Chief of Gastroenterology, Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, North Carolina

Dr. Martin H. Poleski received his Medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He did his Internal Medicine training in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, and his Gastroenterolgy Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. . He was program director of the Fellowship program in Gastroenterology and Hepatology; and Directory of the Inflammatory Bowel Center at the Scripps Clinic Medical Group in La Jolla, California.

He is currently Professor of Medicine at Duke University, Director of Endoscopy and Chief of Gastroenterology at one of Duke University’s teaching hospitals, Durham Regional Hospital. Dr. Poleski’s main interests currently are the early diagnosis of colon cancer and the treatment of Inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Poleski has participated in numerous clinical studies in these diseases, as well as other illnesses.

Keyur Patel, M.D.,FRACP, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina

Dr Keyur Patel received his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1989 from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He completed his internship in the United Kingdom and residency and Internal Medicine fellowships at Fremantle and QE II Medical Centers in Perth, Western Australia. Dr. Patel completed his clinical fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Perth Teaching Hospitals, Western Australia in 2001. He completed a three-year post-doctoral research fellowship in Clinical and Translational Research in viral hepatitis at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, San Diego, California and Duke Clinical Research Institute, Durham, North Carolina.

In 2004, Dr. Patel was awarded the inaugural American Association for Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Sheila Sherlock Clinical and Translational Research award to pursue research interests related to proteomics, genomics, and non-invasive fibrosis markers in hepatitis C infection. In 2007, he completed a post-doctoral degree (DM) in Pathogenesis of Hepatitis C and Fibrosis through the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He has co–authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, and has submitted over 100 abstracts to both national and international meetings. In addition, he has served as Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials in hepatitis C infection, and as a reviewer for many of the principal journals in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
